Unity

seeing no differences

We, human beings, were made for harmony and union. It surprises me how often I may focus on someone's mistake or their differences. It is these thoughts and feelings that keep the practices of unity out of reach when I need them most. How do I look beyond mistakes and see a wonderful creation of God? It is when I base my love for others on the divine qualities that I see in them, that I may move past whether they like me or not by seeking to please them. This more sage minded thinking comes to me when I am bringing myself to account in private, but how do I access it in the moment so that I do not injure a relationship I treasure with the stain of taking offence? Asking the question is in and of itself a path toward practicing unity. Remembering to value each and every person for the simple fact that they too possess this innate nobility and they too are struggling to live productively, lovingly and align themself with loftier standards, helps to reorient my thoughts and behavior. This unifying work is indeed challenging and perhaps the reason why it is nations have such a hard time implementing it. It begins with individuals, devolves to families, neighbourhoods and eventually communities. It is infectious when it shared.
