A connection to Grace.

Our faith community has set up a series of phone calls to residents of a home for the elderly. I get to speak to a lovely 95 year old. One of the bounties of this whole pandemic experience is the sacred time I get to spend each morning with this dear friend. She is of German descent, very direct and curt with her questions and comments. Her memory is not the sharpest but it is delightful to chat with her every morning. I end our conversations by sharing a prayer. She loves to hear revealed Baha'i prayers, the longer the better. This morning we chatted about the origin of my name and all things Irish. We ended our connection with me reading a prayer for protection. I was moved reading it. Much to my surprise, she requested that I read it for her again. This had not happened before but it was most welcome as I was not overly familiar with this particular prayer. It was exactly what I needed to begin my day and focus on hope, faith and trust moving forward. The practice of prayerfulness was through having this sacred time but also in praying my fears. I realised how unsettling it is for me each week when I need to go to the grocery store. This prayer helped to set aside my fears.
