Peacefulness

"These fruitless strifes, these ruinous wars shall pass away, and the 'Most Great Peace' shall come." ~Baha'u'llah

I have been studying with a group of friends a letter written to the peoples of the world entitled "The Promise of World Peace", written by the supreme democratically elected governing body of the Baha'i Faith - the Universal House of Justice. Peace in the world begins first with peace in our own individual hearts. It is no surprise then, that I have attracted this virtue today. The card states that, peace involves releasing the past. As I consider what this entails, I am astounded by the magnitude of what it takes to lay the past to rest. As I learn more and more about history, trauma, ideologies and human frailty, I see that in attaching my thoughts and emotions to these things brings agitation and anxiety to my inner state. How may I exude a peaceful countenance when I have not taken the time to first bring that state about for myself? I cannot change the past but I can work to bring about a better future. This work requires a peaceful inner state, one that does not get blown around and enticed into the current state of the world (yet has to live in the world as it is) but aware of the decay and degradation is a beacon of calm, joy and hope. Just like agitation and anxiety, peace is contagious, it attracts other hearts like a magnet and people want to know what it is that brings on a tranquil sense of well being. It shows up on peoples faces, in thoughts and behaviour. To achieve this, I must nourish myself with peaceful material, listen to peaceful music and watch peaceful shows to cultivate peace in my own life. Peace is the silken thread woven through this holiday time, the gift Christ gave to the world.

Peace is always the vibe I get from you. And, yes, it's very attractive. Hugs.
