This is a great vantage point from which to view the future and construct goals. It feeds this exercise with inspiration and enthusiasm. I love this part of goal setting, letting my wildest and most daring dreams flow and see where it leads. When I sink in to idealism, I cast off the limiting stories and see the myriad of possibilities. I am capable, strong and resilient to face the necessary steps toward the goal I seek. It gives me unique insight into the work that I do, to see beyond the veneer and into the depths of an organisation, seeking out the ways in which they may strengthen unity within to be a beacon of justice and diversity. What I need to strengthen is to act as if my dreams are possible. To repel the forces that operate to maintain the status quo, even in personal matters that concern only me, and see it all through the lens of idealism. This view ignites joy, energy and dispels impossibilities. How do I maintain a posture of having faith in the highest possible outcome when it feels like things all around me are going to pot? It would be foolish of me to believe that I may snap my fingers and effect change, like everything else strengthening idealism is a daily and regular practice. I can persevere among the hard matters that are inevitable in the business of pursuing a dream, to keep a focus on the goal and weather the storm. It means embracing the challenges and realising that the skills I learn or fortify as a result of overcoming an obstacle are required in order for me to achieve the goal. What will offer me this perspective, I wonder when I am swirling in a vortex of discomfort and cannot discern the way forward and want to wallow in self pity? I could give the stock answers about faith and trust but I know to live this is the hardest thing imaginable. Perhaps the gift is in the awareness of it but a plan is required to keep the glow of idealism visible. I am going to ponder a while on this and hope that idealism will help me realise this dream!
