Idealism

Dreams are beautiful

Starting from the premise of wanting to making this world a better place, idealism breeds creativity, wonder and enthusiasm. As I strive to follow the teachings of the Baha'i Faith, I have been exposed to a stream of guidance that assures me it will be so. Living on this earthly plane and witnessing how we treat each other and our planet, at times dims my enthusiasm. Though it has never been said that it is an easy task, the effort and sustained exertion that it necessitates is exhausting and thankless. I know, deep down in my bones, that we have the tools we need to get along to love one another and see humanity in all people. That the overarching operating principle of the oneness of humanity will when acknowledged and practiced diligently will lead to the prosperity and success of all. Where there is disunity and I am the observer, I have been able to identify that small change of heart that must occur to bring harmony once more. To me it is small but to those involved it is an impassable mountain to which they continue to add distance. We cling to being right, lauding our points of view over others for understanding, acknowledgement and praise. I do this, unconscious of the damage that I leave in my wake and heedless of the consequences. I strive to remember that I am only responsible for one life, and that is my own. It starts with me, changing my own behaviour, opening up to other points of view, letting go of the things over which I have no control and loving the other person for no other reason than that they are a wonderful, miraculous creation of God. When I orient my heart in this way, my ego loosens its grip, the pain of what I am desperately holding on to subsides and lifts. In this small way, I make a difference.
