the gift of our connection

I am reflecting on the virtues circle I participated in last evening. It was a space that was filled with reverence, openness, truthfulness and love. We represent many iterations of humankind and in our connection in this circle have found acceptance, belonging and a tender haven for our delicate hearts. Once a fortnight I have the bounty of attending this space and it allows me to see how petty and trivial it is to dwell on those things that separate us and instead glory in our connectedness. How much we learn from others when we simply listen to their hearts, hear their stories and allow the judgments, advice and theories, our overactive and seemingly attentive brains conjure up, to float away into the ether. I have observed time and time again how when a heart is given a loving space where it feels safe and secure to empty itself, how clarity, confidence and strength rise up and find expression. What would it be like if this type of communication were more widely spread? This is the practice that I feel humanity encourages me to exhibit in my spheres of influence. I need not be concerned about the type of people, the prospective reaction or indeed base it on any previous experience. What matters is that I acknowledge that we are one and it is this oneness that should be communicated to you. My individual concerns serve only to keep me apart and this separation provides fertile breeding ground for conflict, contention, strife, estrangement and apathy; the prime antagonists of unity. We all have a part to play but I cannot make what is my part to play dependent on yours and what it is you do. This would only serve to widen the gap we are trying so desperately to close. I have to act now, not vacillate by looking around and seeing who is with me. It is the doing of it that will enable me to be attracted to and will attract like minded people, through which these sentiments will multiply. The suffering in the world, of which we have daily proof, needs for me to step up, play my part and treat this responsibility as a gift.
