I continue today to acknowledge the thoughtfulness of the police. When I encounter genuine helpfulness, I believe it bears recognition and mention. My son worked with the police yesterday as his stolen laptop was tracked by his phone and he alerted the police as to the areas where it had been. The police diligently followed his phone's lead. The laptop was recovered! I am grateful for the interaction that my son had with the police, seeing not the uniform and what it has come to represent to pockets of society due to abuses of power. It is an important lesson for us both. To be open to the sincerity that is innate in human beings. To see beyond what my eyes see as perceived through my past experiences. But this is a distorted reality. It fuels prejudice and division and is what I need to release. I require keen and penetrating eyes that will perceive the goodness in everyone. It is the power of the other vision, the eyes of the heart. It requires me to reset my emotional gauge every time, with each new encounter, to open my heart to change that old story and create a new one.
