Creativity ebbs and flows for me in life. It is woven into my overall emotional state and spiritual health. During times of positivity, happiness and energy, I feel most creative and find ways to express it easily. I happen to be in this frame of mind at the moment and ideas and thoughts spring up like weeds in my mind. I smile more and am more open to engaging in conversations with many people. My mind feels expansive and vast as I forage for options and solutions, finding them easily and sharing them with others. I have been asked to collaborate with a group to devise a space for the investigation and exploration of racial amity. A weighty subject, beset with despair and darkness that rests on the hearts of all of us. Speaking to my fellow collaborators who bring their enthusiasm, intelligence and experience to bear on the manner in which this project unfolds, exposes the variety of perspectives that we all have on this complex issue. What is the right way to go about this task? Perhaps there isn't one. I feel that merely collaborating with these friends has given us the space to share ourselves more openly with one another. To hear and appreciate the varied paths life has traced for us and be open and frank in sharing the lessons from our mistakes... we all have them none of us is immune. I know that the purpose of my group is to devise a workshop in which others can explore this subject and consider how they want to show up in the world today, tomorrow and beyond but I cannot help feeling that the meaningful conversations that have emerged as we collectively strive to plan this workshop is the fruit of this exercise. The closer bonds of friendship and the ease with which we have come to discuss a difficult topic have inevitably brought us closer as people. The ever present strangeness polite distance that often persists, even in communities that meet regularly, is being shed and discarded for a genuine connection. This is where creativity is leading my thoughts today.
