Courtesy

Courtesy: my everyday garments.

Exactly what I need today! I am tired after a very full day yesterday and not enough sleep. When tired, I am careless in my practice of courtesy. I lack tact and kindness in my speech and with the words I choose to utter. Not to mention I forget to simply be silent when the urge to be curt is irresistible. I have had cause to remember courtesy already today. I was challenged to resist going with my first thought. It is going to be a long day!! I will have to remind myself often that my fatigue is not an excuse to listen half heartedly or embrace rashness and lack of care. As this quotation states, courtesy is like my clothes, do I really want to walk around in public without any?

We, verily, have chosen courtesy, and made it the true mark of such as are nigh unto Him. Courtesy is, in truth, a raiment which fitteth all men, whether young or old. Well is it with him that adorneth his temple therewith, and woe unto him who is deprived of this great bounty. – Baha’u’llah, Epistle to the Son of the Wolf, p. 50.
