Self-discipline

My last few virtues picks seem to have a theme or maybe it is simply the manner in which they are directing me right now. I have several lines of action on the go at the moment and countless distractions are out there enticing me to follow their lead and draw me away from keeping on the path of my goals. These distractions are really not the issue as it is the meaning I attach to them that then reflects on the level of self-control I choose to exercise. No thing can actually make me do anything, it is I who choose to do the actions that feed procrastination instead of remaining productive. Self- discipline will be my companion today, gently nudging me to stay on course. Mastering my self is a task that requires vigilance. I see the parallel with the season we are in. During this time of spring, the weeds are coming up quickly with the abundance of sun and rain which means that as a gardener attentiveness is called for to notice the habits that may begin to bud. Rooting them out quickly is solely my work. There is no weed killer in this work, it is a manual job that must be done by hand by cultivating mindfulness and presence. Aren't the most beautiful gardens those that are tended systematically, with love and care by a joyful gardener? It transcends work...
